Current situationCurrent coastal RAILWAY CORRIDOR between Valencia and Alicante

The existence of a railway corridor between Valencia and Alicante which runs along the coast is shown on the map. The route can be seen running between Denia and Alicante (TRAM) via the towns of Alicante province, and a “tren de cercanias” between Valencia and Gandia, leaving a gap of 33Km between Denia and Gandia.

Railway today

The Valencian METROPOLITANO.

The train from Valencia to Gandia runs on an Iberian-width track (1,668 mms) which differs from the European (1,435 mms), and serves as a “tren de cercanias” from the towns of Valencia to its capital. RENFE (Red de Ferrocarriles de España) operates this service which runs every 20 minutes, stopping in Alfafar, Massanassa, Catarroja, Silla, Sollana, Sueca, Cullera, Tavernes, Xeraco and Gandia. The route takes an hour, and is considered a useful and modern means of transport between the towns.

The Alicante TRAM

The train from Denia to Alicante was inaugurated in 1915 on a narrow gauge track (1,000 mms). This extended the line from Valencia (Carcaixent-Denia), inaugurated earlier in 1884, to the towns of Gata, Benissa, Calpe, Benidorm, etc, and on to Alicante. The exploitation and development of this line experienced many difficulties and it is currently under repair, to be re-opened in 2019.

Despite this, its infrastructure still has many limitations like the number of stops on the route to Alicante, making it an extremely slow option for the region’s inhabitants. The journey takes two and a half hours.

THE RAILWAY GAP AND WHAT IS LACKING in the Marina Alta.

There is no route or railway link between Gandia and Denia, adversely affecting the municipalities and towns of the Safor and the Marina Alta (Gandia-Denia).

There is an antiquated route, little-used, between Denia and Alicante, which does not provide a swift means of communication between our towns and their capital, Alicante.

OUR PROPOSAL

A train track parallel to the AP 7 motorway, near exit 62 where the local train and bus station of the Marina Alta should be
