Who we are afcopma train of the coast ondara pedreguer gorgo cat
We are a group of citizens from the Marina Alta district who are extremely worried about the train route presented by the Ministry of Development (Ministerio de Formento) on the 8th of July, 2016.
Our proposal is:
- WE NEED A TRAIN, THE “TREN DE LA COSTA”
- A TRAIN WHICH HAS NO IMPACT ON THE SCENERY
- WE NEED A ROUTE WHICH RUNS PARALLEL TO THE AP7 – FASTER AND MORE ECONOMICAL
- A ROUTE WHICH DOES NOT HARM THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE NATURAL PARK OF MONTGÓ
- WE NEED A STATION NEAR TO THE EXIT 62 OF THE AP7 AT ONDARA TO SERVE THE WHOLE MARINA ALTA
- WE NEED A STATION WITH GOOD CONNECTIONS FOR GENERAL TRAFFIC AND BUSES WITH A LARGE PARKING AREA
This website is the voice of thousands of people of Denia and inhabitants of Marina Alta district - La Xara, Jesus Pobre, La Sella, La Sella Golf, Montgó, Pedreguer, Ondara, Pego, Vergel, Javea, Gata…etc. All the area’s inhabitants are extremely concerned by the new coastal train route presented by the Ministry of Development on 8th July 2016. Instead of running parallel to the AP7 as originally planned, this new route would take the coastal train from Denia through La Xara, La Sella, La Sella Golf, Montgó Natural Park and Jesus Pobre, and through to Gata destroying much natural habitat in its wake, as well as agricultural land. We are fighting this route proposing instead the original plan which directly connected our two major towns of Valencia and Alicante with a high speed ‘Tren de la Costa’.
We began as a small group of people who, when apprised of the new route, were extremely worried about the impact it would have on the natural environment, particularly the protected areas such as the Montgó. We formed an official Association and have now held meetings throughout the proposed affected areas where we have gained a huge amount of support.
It seems that the proposal to terminate the route at Denia, then for passengers to travel by the tram (trenet) to a new interchange at Punta Benimaquia has ignored or forgotten the thousands of inhabitants who would have to travel to Denia to board the train north to Valencia. The CV735 would become a complete bottleneck as cars travel to access the station – and where could they park in a town which is already at bursting point?
We continue to campaign for the ‘tren de la costa’, connecting Valencia and Alicante with a purpose built interchange at Ondara which will serve the whole of the Marina Alta.
.We believe in the TRAIN OF THE COAST, and we welcome you to the layout of the Ministry of Public Works, but we want it to serve the entire Region, respecting the Montgó Protection Corridors and the Natural Park itself.
What do we want....
WE NEED AND WANT "THE COASTAL TRAIN"
We want to reach Valencia or Alicante in less than one hour.
WE WANT TO "PROTECT THE COUNTRYSIDE"
We want to protect the Marjal Natural Park of Pego-Oliva, the Montgó Natural Park, and the natural areas of Pedreguer and Jesús Pobre.
WE WANT A STATION THAT SERVES THE WHOLE REGION
DÉNIA has 41,000 inhabitants, the MARINA ALTA REGION 170,000 inhabitants and in summer there a more than 360,000 people living here.
A tracing of the train in parallel to the AP7 motorway, near Lasalida 62 where the local train and bus station of the Marina Alta should be.
This website has been created by
AFCOPMA (Association to develop relationships between the people and villages of the Marina Alta)
This is a not-for-profit organisation, legally constituted by those who wish to revive the original route of the tren de la costa parallel to the AP7, with an interchange at Ondara serving all of the Marina Alta, plus a connection to Denia. We welcome the Tren de la Costa as a fast connection between Valencia and Alicante and want it to run alongside the route of the AP7. This will be faster, more economical and will best serve all inhabitants of the region.
The Board of AFCOPMA works completely transparently. We have a detailed register of all our members, a bank account with authorised signatories, plus we hold regular meetings to keep all our members and supporters informed of the current situation.
